The critics look back at the highlights of last year.

Sarah Crompton highlights, what was for her, the best of 2006 on stage and television, “By far the biggest dance sensation of 2006 was its unlikely success as a television light entertainment format in the form of Strictly Come Dancing and Strictly Dance Fever… “it was Sylvie Guillem, now an associate artist of that theatre [Sadler’s Wells], who once again made the pulse race, working with Akram Khan to produce Sacred Monsters, a collaboration that took two dancers with startlingly contrasting classical styles and transported them into a dazzling world.” Read more in Telegraph, 23 Dec.06
